Maintenance of personal hygiene at elderly person


        Certain rules must be maintained by every elderly person in order to ensure proper health and long life. The outline of personal hygiene in an elderly person is as follows:

1. Good Nutrition
      It plays an important essentials role in the total well being of elderly persons. The diet should be reduced in calories, but it must be adequate in minerals and vitamins. The calories intake should be around 26 Kcal/kg body weight, of which
      -50% should be carbohydrates,
      -30% should be proteins, and
      -20% should be fats. 

2. Avoiding of tobacco smoking and other drug addictions.

3. Avoiding of over weight to escape from the disease like diabetes, IHD etc.

4. Regular, light exercise.

5. Adequate water intake.

6. Mild sedation is helpful.
